A woman was taken into federal custody last week after authorities said she smuggled nearly a half-kilogram of heroin aboard a Megabus from Houston to New Orleans.

The FBI accused Martha Quinones of one count of conspiring to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Thomas Gordon, a man believed to have bought the woman’s bus ticket and who met Quinones at the bus stop, was booked on the same count.

According to federal court documents, the FBI had been monitoring cellphone communications between Quinones and Gordon, and agents were waiting for Quinones when she arrived in New Orleans carrying a bag of the powdery substance.

Gordon had been under federal investigation since 2014. Federal authorities, using undercover agents, have made at least six “controlled purchases” of heroin from him totaling 42 grams, according to court records.
