New Orleans police are looking for a pair of young men suspected of stealing a school bus after surveillance video showed them taking the vehicle on a series of joyrides.
The bus was stolen from Mildred Osborne School in New Orleans East on July 20, police said.
A series of images released Sunday showed the two taking turns behind the wheel.
About noon July 21, 7th District officers investigated an abandoned 2006 school bus at Edgelake Court and Wales Street in eastern New Orleans. Two passenger windows were damaged, and the driver’s window had been left open.
Although the school bus had not been reported as stolen, officers contacted the school bus company. They learned the bus had been taken the previous night from outside the school, located in the 6700 block of Curran Boulevard.
The two men seen in the surveillance footage were both wearing hats.
One had dreadlocks and was wearing a hat with an army fatigue pattern. The other appeared to have short hair and was wearing a white-colored hat.
Police said that once they are apprehended, both will be booked on theft of a motor vehicle.
Seventh District Detective Sebastian Trigo is in charge of the investigation and can be reached at (504) 658-6070.
