An adult and two children escaped a fire at a New Orleans East home by jumping from the second floor, fire officials said.
Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, a fire started in a two-story home in the 7700 block of Lady Gray Street, the New Orleans Fire Department said in a news release.
Three residents, a father and two children, escaped before firefighters arrived. The father told officials that the fire started downstairs, and he “dropped the children from the second floor window and then jumped.”
The father suffered a foot injury, and one boy suffered a bump and cut on his forehead, NOFD said. All three residents were treated for smoke inhalation and transported to an area hospital.
The owner of the home said he was allowing his friend and two children to stay in the house while it was under renovation, NOFD said. There were no smoke alarms installed in the home.
The fire was deemed under control at 4:54 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
