The winners of Excellence in Teaching Awards from New Schools for New Orleans are Hannah Bunis, Akili Academy of New Orleans; Sylvia Crier, McDonogh 35 Senior High School; Tamara Durant, KIPP Renaissance High School; Charles Harrison, Warren Easton Charter High School; Nicole Mayeux, Walter L. Cohen College Prep; Gregory Sextion, Samuel J. Green Charter School; Brittany Smith, Edward Hynes Charter School; Kristi Walton, Langston Hughes Academy; and Lytanya Wilbon, James M. Singleton Charter School.

The awards were presented during a banquet May 25; finalists received a $2,000 bonus check.

Finalists in the award competition are Alex Bell, Sci Academy; Ivory Clark, Lawrence D. Crocker College Prep; Warnett Craig, Medard H. Nelson Charter School; Elfrida Flint, Alice M. Harte Charter School; Lynette Henry, Fannie C. Williams Charter School; Mariko Kawate, Harriet Tubman Charter School; Hannah Rich, New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School; Mia Rotondo, Benjamin Franklin Elementary Mathematics and Science School; Sophia Roy, KIPP Central City Academy; Kristen Weddle, Morris Jeff Community School; and Whitney Wiegand, ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy.
