A rare streak of 10 days without a killing in New Orleans ended early Tuesday morning with the stabbing death of a man in the 3000 block of Clouet Street. A woman was arrested in connection with the death.

After receiving a report of a man bleeding profusely on the porch of a home about 1 a.m., officers found the victim, 39, suffering from several stab wounds. He died at the scene.

Earlier in the night, police said, Shamira Menendez, 37, had been on the porch with the victim and his family members. After the family members went inside to sleep, Menendez ran inside to say the man had been stabbed.

Family members’ testimony and evidence on the scene led police to arrest Menendez. She was booked on a count of second-degree murder.

Police believe a kitchen knife was used to kill the victim.

Homicide Detective Gregory Johnson is leading the investigation and can be reached at (504) 658-5300.
