A triple shooting in New Orleans East claimed the life of one man and left two others wounded just after midnight Monday morning.

The victim, identified by Coroner Jeffrey Rouse as Michael Spikes, 25, was sitting in a Saturn sedan in a strip mall parking lot near Chef Menteur Highway and Alcee Fortier Boulevard.

Police said another car pulled up and opened fire on the stopped car, sending its occupants fleeing onto Chef Menteur, where they collapsed. Spikes was found dead on the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

The other victims, a woman, 32, and a man, 44, were taken to the hospital. Police Department spokesman Officer Frank Robertson said the woman suffered a graze wound to the face while the condition of the man, who was shot in the back and arm, was not known.
