Sheriff’s Office recruit shot dead in Treme

A 24-year-old Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office recruit was shot to death Sunday night in the Treme neighborhood, according to Officer Hilal Williams, a spokeswoman for the Police Department.

The man was identified as Aaron White by Coroner Jeffrey Rouse.

Williams said White was shot about 7 p.m. in his red Pontiac G8 near North Johnson Street and Orleans Avenue.

The car continued up Orleans Avenue before stopping in the 2800 block of Orleans, Williams said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

White had joined the Sheriff’s Office in September. The office sent grief counselors to assist White’s co-workers.

Man shot to death Sunday in Algiers

A man was fatally shot in Algiers on Sunday night, New Orleans police said.

The victim was identified by Coroner Jeffrey Rouse as Cornell Glover, 30.

Officer Hilal Williams said the shooting happened about 11 p.m. in the 3300 block of De Armas Street.

She said Glover was shot multiple times by two assailants. He was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle and died there.

Police have not named any suspects in the shooting.

Man wanted in overnight auto theft

New Orleans police are searching for a man wanted in an auto theft that happened Friday or Saturday in the 1100 block of Amelia Street.

The 48-year-old victim said he parked his vehicle in front of his residence at 5 p.m. Friday and found it missing the next morning.

He said his wallet and credit card were in the car. The credit card was used at several locations, and police released a photo of a man using it.

The vehicle was a black 2008 Toyota Tacoma bearing Massachusetts license plate 6060MF.

Mandeville police probing car vandalisms

Mandeville police are asking for the public’s help in finding those responsible for a rash of weekend car vandalisms in and near the New Golden Shores and Mariner’s Village neighborhoods, Chief Rick Richard said.

About two dozen incidents of vandalism, mostly slashed tires, were reported over the weekend, he said. Most were reported Saturday morning, but some reports continued to come in on Sunday as people returned from holiday trips.

One car was burglarized as well.

Woman raped Sunday in French Quarter

A woman reported she was raped Sunday afternoon in the French Quarter.

The incident happened about 2 p.m. at Iberville and North Peters streets.

The 20-year-old woman was involved in a traffic incident with another vehicle, police said.

When she pulled into a nearby parking lot, two unknown men assaulted her inside her car.

Woman sought in theft at beauty supply shop

The NOPD is asking for the public’s assistance in locating and identifying a woman wanted in a theft Nov. 25 at Queen’s Beauty Supply, 3122 S. Claiborne Ave.

The victim was making a purchase about 10:30 a.m. when she placed her cellphone on a box near the front counter.

The woman was observed removing the black Samsung Galaxy phone from the box and placing it in her purse before leaving the store.

The woman has a boot on her left leg due to a possible foot or leg injury. She was described as a black woman about 5-foot-10 and 230 pounds.

Two men stabbed on French Quarter street

Two men were stabbed Sunday night in the 900 block of Decatur Street, police said.

The men, 62 and 28, were walking about 8:45 p.m. when an unknown woman walked past them and stabbed them with an unknown sharp glass object.

Man booked with sexual assault Sunday

Glenn Williams, 42, was arrested and booked with sexual battery in connection with an assault on a woman, New Orleans police said.

The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of Egania Street in the Lower 9th Ward.

Man, 48, carjacked Sunday in Algiers

A 48-year-old man was carjacked Sunday night in Algiers, New Orleans police said.

The victim was approached about 10 p.m. in the 3300 block of Seine Street by an armed man who demanded he get out of his vehicle and give up all his personal property.

The robber fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was recovered a short time later.

Tammany mobile home fire under scrutiny

Fire investigators are looking into a fire that destroyed an unoccupied mobile home near Covington.

The fire was reported about 11:15 p.m. Sunday at 20365 Fifth Ave. in the Tammany Hills area. When firefighters from Fire District No. 12 arrived, they found visible flames and a fire that took 80 minutes to bring under control, according to spokesman James Hartman.

No one was living in the mobile home at the time, Hartman said, and it was being remodeled.

“Fires in vacant structures are always suspicious, and we are investigating this case thoroughly and aggressively,” Deputy Chief Stephen Krentel said.
