A new walking path in West End Park, in the Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans, is a project of the American Heart Association through its Start! Walking program.
Planning and signage for the mile-long loop path was financed by United Healthcare, which has made a three-year, $1.95 million commitment to the program, with the goal of creating 150 safe and accessible walking paths throughout the United States.
The West End Park project is the fourth Start! Walking path in New Orleans. The first, in Duncan Plaza, was dedicated in May 2012. The second is in Palmer Park, and the third is in Lafayette Square. Linzy Cotaya, of the Heart Association, said the local affiliate will meet soon to review the success of the program and plan its future.
