Judge Sol Gothard gave a presentation on “Jewish Defenders of Freedom Throughout the Ages” during a joint meeting of the Jewish War Veterans of America, Post 580, New Orleans, and American Legion Post 175 in Metairie. The joint meeting of the posts was the first of its kind.

Gothard, commander of the Jewish War Veterans post, also is a member of the American Legion post; and Jay Walsh, commander of the American Legion post, also is a member of the JWV post.

Gothard’s expansive presentation stretched from Abraham and Moses through the Revolutionary and Civil wars to Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Patron members from other faiths make New Orleans Post 580 the most diverse JWV post in the nation. The post is actively involved with other veterans organizations and with the community at large, particularly in interracial and interfaith events.
