A 30-year-old man was found shot to death Wednesday night in an apparent drug deal in the 1600 block of Painters Street, New Orleans police said.

Police said they believe the shooting occurred at 8:30 p.m. and the victim, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead on the scene after he was found unresponsive with several gunshot wounds, Officer Frank B. Robertson III said in a news release.

Police said they believe the shooting was a drug deal because they found a loaded handgun in the victim’s waistband and a “large amount of narcotics,” Robertson said.
