Portions of South Claiborne and South Carrollton avenues will be closed starting Thursday as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completes drainage work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Damage Reduction Project.

The left eastbound lane of South Claiborne Avenue between Dante Street and South Carrollton Avenue will be closed as crews prepare to install a new drainage culvert.

The left southbound lane of South Carrollton between Nelson Street and South Claiborne also will be closed to remove abandoned underground utilities.

The lane closures will be in effect from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. The work is expected to take about a week.

The Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Damage Reduction Project, better known as SELA, includes citywide improvements to pumping stations and drainage canals. It is scheduled to be completed in 2018.
