UPDATE, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday: The New Orleans Police Department Violent Offenders Warrant Squad arrested Fanchand White, 30, Wednesday in connection with the kidnapping of her niece and nephew from a motel in the 2400 block of Tulane Avenue on Saturday.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday, White asked to take the children to get something to eat and never returned, police said. White allegedly removed all of her belongings from the motel room and blocked her sister’s number.

Police said White returned the children to her sister Tuesday.

She was arrested around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of North Johnson Street. She was booked on two counts of simple kidnapping and other outstanding warrants.

Police are looking for a woman they believe may have whisked her niece and nephew away to Texas without their mother’s permission.

New Orleans Police Department spokesman Officer Juan Barnes said that Fanchand White, 30, took her 11-year-old nephew, Lafred Clinton, and 8-year-old niece, Iyanah Jones, from a hotel in the 2400 block of Tulane Avenue on Sunday morning.

Efforts to contact White, who reportedly was upset that her sister was living with the children in the hotel, were not successful. Police said they might be traveling to Woodville, Texas.
