Man arrested in St. Claude homicide

After finding the alleged murder weapon in a detergent box, New Orleans police arrested a 72-year-old man Wednesday in connection with a Saturday homicide at St. Claude Avenue and Pauger Street.

Donald “Bilal” Wiliams was booked on a second degree murder count. Police said he shot Oliver Lloyd, 45, multiple times about 6 p.m. Lloyd later died at LSU Interim Hospital.

Detectives learned that a dark gray Nissan Titan, which had been parked nearby, was seen leaving the scene. Several people told police that the car belonged to a man named “Bilal,” whom officers identified as Donald Williams.

Police then got a tip that the Nissan was parked near a home in the 3000 block of Louisiana Avenue Parkway, and a relative of Williams said the suspected shooter had brought the car back to the home about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to court records, Williams allegedly returned to the house again Sunday and told the relative that “he had a box of detergent for the household,” even though they hadn’t asked for any cleaning supplies.

Williams allegedly insisted on leaving the box at the home, and when detectives paid a visit, they found a handgun inside, court records show. The casings from the crime scene matched the black Beretta 9mm handgun found in the detergent box.

Williams’ bail was set at $350,000.
