Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful recently expressed appreciation to Jefferson Parish and the Union Pacific Railroad for their support of the group’s tree-planting efforts.
The Friends group presented certificates of appreciation to Jefferson Parish Councilman Elton M. Lagasse and to Paul A. “Drew” Tessler of Union Pacific Railroad.
Over the past five years, Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful, working in conjunction with the Jefferson Parish Department of Parkways, has planted a total of 440 trees on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish.
First, holly and magnolia trees were planted along 4th Street in Marrero and Harvey. Next, 42 live oak trees were planted in the median of Westbank Expressway from Garden Road to Westwood Drive. This summer, the Westbank Expressway plantings were extended, with 42 more live oaks placed from Westwood Drive to Victory Drive.
Joe Baucum, manager of the West Bank tree-planting project, says another 50 live oak trees are to be planted from Victory Drive to Tanglewood Drive. To support the extended project, contact Baucom at (504) 214-6044 or email@example.com.
