Police seek family of shooting victim
New Orleans — Authorities are still trying to contact the family of a man found shot to death near an eastern New Orleans apartment complex Tuesday.
The shooting was reported shortly before 10:45 p.m. in the 8000 block of Trapier Street. Police say the man was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the body inside of a gray Nissan Altima at the location. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has been unable to contact the victim’s family to release any details about his identify.
Reward increased in Gretna car burglary
Gretna — Crimestoppers increased the reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of two men accused of stealing $100,000 from an ATM employee last month.
The reward is now $5,000 for information.
Police say the two stalked the employee around town before breaking into his vehicle while it was parked at a Gretna shopping center on Feb. 11. Police have grainy photos of the men, but no other information.
Task force nabs four fugitives; two wanted
Slidell — With the help of a federal task force, Slidell Police arrested four suspects wanted on a collection of felony charges. They are still looking for two men.
Police announced the arrests of Beaux Guidry, 20, of Slidell; Arthur Newcomb, 17, of Slidell; Brian Segraves, 22, of Slidell; and Tanisha Lee, 24, of Slidell.
Guidry and Newcomb were both wanted in New Orleans on kidnapping and simple robbery charges in connection with an incident where they allegedly tried to force a woman into a car after Newcomb’s relative met her at a club.
Segraves was wanted by Slidell Police on aggravated rape charges, and Lee was wanted by Slidell Police on identity theft and burglary charges, police said.
Authorities are searching for Christopher Barnett, 31, a convicted sex offender wanted on obscenity charges.
Daniel Ortego, 35, is wanted on charges of bank fraud, identity theft and unauthorized use of an access card.
Police seek suspects in Mid-City robbery
New Orleans — Police are looking at two men who robbed a 20-year-old woman at gunpoint in Mid-City on Tuesday morning.
The incident was reported around 11:24 a.m. in the 3300 block of Iberville Street. The woman told police that two men walked up to her, and one of them put a gun to her head.
The suspects demanded her keys and cellphone before fleeing the scene.
N.O. man sentenced in mail fraud case
New Orleans — Robert Hackett, 67, of New Orleans, was sentenced in federal court Wednesday to 51 months in prison for mail fraud, U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente said.
Hackett, a lawyer who represented professional athletes in workers’ compensation claims, defrauded his clients of more than $700,000 by having insurers send money to him and depositing it in his own bank account, according to a Department of Justice press release.
He also forged his clients’ signatures and deposited the money in his account without their knowledge.
He has been ordered to pay restitution to his clients.
