The New Orleans Police Department arrested two people last week while investigating a string of Uptown armed robberies, but neither has been booked in those crimes and they are not considered suspects, police said Monday.
John Guillory, 18, and an unnamed teenager were arrested in New Orleans East, police said.
Neither of them has been booked in connection with the armed robberies of customers and staff members at Patois and Atchafalaya restaurants or the Monkey Hill bar.
“The charges that they’re arrested for are not related to that investigation, and we’ve not named them as suspects, or persons of interest, or otherwise,” NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble said. “We’re still looking into whether there’s a connection here. We don’t know what that connection may be, even if there is one.”
The arrests were first reported by nola.com, which said that according to an arrest report, Guillory was taken into custody after NOPD detectives following leads in the Uptown robberies spotted a stolen 2015 Nissan Altima pulling into the Hidden Lake apartment complex on Wednesday.
A chase ensued, according to the website, after which Guillory and the juvenile were taken into custody in the 7000 block of Arbor Drive.
Guillory was booked Thursday and was ordered held on $2,000 bail Friday on a count of illegal possession of a stolen auto, according to court records.
