Memorial blood drive set

Knights Of Columbus Council 13425 will sponsor a blood drive in memory of Kendall Oliver Springman from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Community Life Center on the campus of St. Matthew the Apostle Church and School, 10021 Jefferson Highway, in River Ridge.

“Since my grandson’s death on July 31, 2011, from leukemia, our family has continued to do blood drives in his memory,” Ken Springman said. “From when Kendall was first diagnosed with leukemia at age 2 until he died when he was 6 years old, we’ve done several blood drives and have raised over 600 units of blood.

“During Kendall’s four-year battle with leukemia, he used between 300 and 400 units of blood or blood platelets. And he was just one of hundreds of children locally who are fighting a blood cancer. For example, Children’s Hospital alone uses about 1,125 units each month, and is currently treating 1,100 kids battling cancer.”

For information or to sign up to donate, call Springman at (504) 450-3355.
