A recent spree of bloodshed across the metro area continued Monday with two separate shootings that left one person injured and another killed.
The latest violence added to an already busy period for authorities in Orleans and Jefferson parishes in which three people were killed and at least 14 wounded over three days by bullets or knives.
Monday’s first shooting occurred at 12:04 a.m. in Gert Town, injuring a 46-year-old man who was struck in the leg by a stray bullet in the 8000 block of Olive Street, New Orleans police said.
Officers responded a few hours later to a fatal shooting in New Orleans East. An unknown man was found about 4 a.m. in the 4400 block of Cessna Court. He was struck several times and died at the scene, police said.
The weekend bloodshed began early Saturday in Treme.
A 19-year-old man and 15-year-old girl were inside a car in the 1100 block of Treme Street when an unknown man walked up and shot them about 4:30 a.m.
Then, about 8:25 a.m., a 48-year-old man was shot in the 2200 block of St. Andrew Street in Central City.
In Kenner, a 10-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to the face during a road-rage incident. Kenner police said the gunman who wounded the boy about 2 p.m. on Interstate 10 was David Jackson, 26, of New Orleans. Several bullet fragments were stuck in the boy’s face, police said.
Later in the day, a man was stabbed in the leg inside a New Orleans East home. Aaron Jackson, 52, died from the wound he suffered about 8:10 p.m. inside the home in the 5100 block of Bayouview Court.
A man also was shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Armstrong Drive in Marrero, and a man was stabbed about 9 p.m. in the 1000 block of Estalotte Avenue in Harvey, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
A woman was stabbed to death on Grand Isle about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. JPSO investigators said Randy Paul Marcel killed 34-year-old Jennifer Dorzier during an argument. She was stabbed multiple times and died on the scene.
Saturday’s final shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. on St. Charles Avenue. Police said a 25-year-old woman was getting off the streetcar at Erato Street when she was hit by a stray bullet.
Just after midnight Sunday, a man was stabbed in the 2100 block of Empire Place in Terrytown.
Then, two men were shot in the 2700 block of Danneel Street in New Orleans.
The two victims — ages 23 and 27 — were wounded about 12:10 a.m. Sunday. Police provided no details about that incident.
Meanwhile, a man was stabbed about 4 a.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of Mississippi Avenue in Metairie, the JPSO said.
Later in the day, a 19-year-old man was shot outside a home in Lakeview in New Orleans.
Police said the victim’s mother picked him up from his home to visit her at her house in the 100 block of Porteous Street.
As the victim got out of his mother’s car, a silver Hyundai Santa Fe SUV drove up and someone inside began shooting.
The victim ran down a service alley in an effort to escape but was hit in both legs and once in the back, police said.
His mother drove him to West End and Veterans boulevards, where paramedics found them.
The victim, who was taken to Interim LSU Hospital for treatment, told police he believes he and his mother were followed from his house to his mother’s home, but he was otherwise “totally uncooperative,” police said.
Sunday’s last shooting happened about 7:50 p.m. near Leonidas and Apple streets in Hollygrove and was apparently a self-inflicted wound.
Police said the victim, an 18-year-old man, was walking in the area and saw someone approach him. The victim pulled out a gun at that point but stumbled, discharging the weapon and striking himself.
