A man stabbed in the chest near Louis Armstrong Park on April 9 has died, according to the New Orleans coroner. Dr. Jeffrey Rouse said 27-year-old Geoffrey Rabsatt died Thursday of complications from stab wounds.
Police said they have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Sedrick Conerly, also known as Cedric “Kat” Conerly, 25, in connection with the case.
Conerly’s last known address was 1905 W Thomas St., Apt. D202 in Hammond. Police said they intend to book him on second degree murder.
Officers found Rabsatt unresponsive in the sidewalk on the 800 block of Rampart Street near the park about 4:20 a.m. on April 9, suffering from two stab wounds. Police said in an initial log of major offenses that he was stabbed after being “involved in a fight with a group of people.”
Rabsatt’s family members are raising money online to cover his funeral expenses.
“The saddest day of our life happened ... when we received the one phone call no parent wants to hear when our beloved Geoffrey was fatally stabbed during the French Quarter Festival weekend while doing what he loved to do the most and that was living life to its fullest,” family members wrote in a GoFundMe post.
Editor’s Note: This post has been updated with additional information from the NOPD and corrected to state that the stabbing occurred near, not inside, the park.
