After admitting last fall to severely beating a woman two years ago, a Prairieville man was sentenced Monday to 25 years in state prison, prosecutors said.
Manly Gilley, 31, 16231 Joe Sevario Road, was arrested on March 28, 2014, on a count of attempted second-degree murder, after he beat a woman who earlier had gotten into an altercation with his girlfriend, according to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The two women were at Gilley’s residence when his girlfriend called him and said the other woman, who is Gilley’s first cousin, had slapped her, the news release says.
Gilley returned home, threw his cousin to the ground and kicked and punched her until she was unconscious. The victim, who was transported to a local hospital, suffered severe injuries, including bleeding on the brain, the news release says.
Gilley pleaded guilty as charged on Oct. 27 , the District Attorney’s Office said.
