A Gonzales man wanted for failure to register as a sex offender was arrested at a Baton Rouge motel Thursday night, after a Crime Stoppers tip, said Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley.
The Sheriff’s Office had been looking for Dustin Sanders, 28, since May 11, after deputies learned he hadn’t lived for some time at the address he had previously given the Sheriff’s Office.
Sanders was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in May 2009 and was placed on probation, the Sheriff’s Office report says.
Sex offenders are required to check in on an annual basis but must tell law enforcement immediately if there are any changes in residency.
Sanders, of 13202 Lambert Road, Gonzales, was arrested Thursday on counts of failure to register as a sex offender and on counts of home invasion and theft in the break-in of a Gonzales home in April, the report says.
He is being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail as a fugitive from Ascension Parish and will be transferred to the Ascension Parish Jail early next week.
Sanders has been arrested eight times in the past on counts that include simple burglary, theft, domestic abuse battery and failure to register as a sex offender, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
