Residents are gathering Friday for a “Gone Too Soon — Stop the Violence” rally at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, Sonia Mulberry said.
The rally starts at 7 p.m. to remember murder victims Todd Hall, Carlos Austin and Darren Smylie Jr.
The body of Hall, 28, was found the morning of Feb. 17 in his car parked in Jackie Robinson Park in Geismar. Austin, 21, was shot and killed in a June 4 incident at a Gonzales convenience store and Smylie, 19, was found dead in his Darrow home last month.
Mulberry is asking those attending to wear a “R.I.P” T-shirt. Balloons will be launched at 9 p.m., she said.
The Plantation Region Master Gardeners of Ascension Parish is hosting a fall training class series beginning Aug. 29.
The classes, which run through Oct. 3, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The program is designed for beginners and experienced gardeners.
The LSU Agricultural Center’s Louisiana Master Gardener plays an important role in meeting the horticultural needs of Louisiana residents by providing research-based information for the fastest-growing leisure activity in the nation — gardening, according to a news release from the agency.
Designed to recruit and train volunteers, the Louisi-ana Master Gardener Program is open to anyone willing to learn and who wants to help others. Instructional training for the Louisiana Master Gardener program is tailored for beginners and experienced gardeners.
In exchange for horticultural training, Master Gardeners contribute time as volunteers, working through their parish extension offices to develop and enhance community programs related to horticulture.
