NAPOLEONVILLE - Officials have lifted remaining no-wake zones imposed on operators of boats and watercraft around homes and camps along Assumption Parish waterways.

Though no-wake zones had been lifted last week on Lake Verret and in Magzille, they remained on Belle River.

Parish emergency officials said Thursday in a news release that the remaining no-wake zones would be lifted as of 11 a.m. Thursday.

The zones had been implemented in anticipation of backwater flooding from the diversion of high water in the Mississippi River into the Morganza Spillway.

A temporary dam in Bayou Chene using sheet pilings and a sunken barge has redirected that backwater flow south instead of north as expected.

The dam is south of Amelia near the junction of St. Mary, Terrebonne and Assumption parishes.

Assumption Parish officials said if circumstances warrant, the zones would be restored.
