Jefferson Beautification is making progress in its project of commissioning and installing 6-foot bronze statues of Greek muses of mythology in a Performing Arts Sculpture Garden at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center in LaSalle Park in Metairie.

The group recently unveiled statues of Thalia, muse of comedy, and Melpomene, muse of tragedy.

Statues of Terpsichore, muse of dance, and Euterpe, muse of music, were unveiled last year.

The sculptor for the first four statues is Kim Bernadas, of New Orleans; the cost is $30,000 each.

Organizations affiliated with Jefferson Beautification are the Chateau Estates Garden Club, Palm Vista Garden Club, Shady Oaks Garden Club, Harahan Beautification Commission and Westwego Beautification Commission.
