An employee of Jefferson Parish allegedly stole $4,340 from the parish Water Department in March, according to an annual financial audit.

The unidentified employee, who was fired after an investigation by parish officials, had worked as a utility collection supervisor, according to the audit.

It’s not clear when parish officials became aware of the theft.

In May, parish officials notified the District Attorney’s Office, the parish Inspector General’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office, and deputies are still investigating the case, the audit says.

The status of that investigation was not clear Monday.

Parish Attorney Deborah Foshee said she could not comment on the situation because it was a personnel matter. She declined to name the employee.

The audit did not turn up any major issues with the parish’s finances.
