Work to repair expansion joints on the Interstate 10 bridge over the Pearl River at the Louisiana-Mississippi state line will require lane closures for two weekends this month, according to a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development news release.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, one lane of I-10 in each direction will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday, a process that will be repeated the following weekend, from 7 p.m. Oct. 24 until 6 a.m. Oct. 27.

Loads will be restricted to a maximum width of 11 feet during the closures.

Mississippi Department of Transportation crews will work 24 hours a day to complete repairs as quickly as possible, the release said.

Drivers will experience significant delays, and highway agencies in both states are advising motorists to take alternate routes, which include:

  • U.S. 90 for passenger vehicles only.
  • For eastbound motorists, U.S. 11 North to I-59 North to Miss. 43 South to I-10.
  • For westbound motorists, Miss. 43 North to I-59 South to I-10.
