Sunrise on Second, a restaurant in Slidell’s Olde Towne area, was heavily damaged by a fire that was spotted by a carrier for The New Orleans Advocate who called 911 early Monday morning, St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 said.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:32 a.m. to find the 2,800 square foot building at 1929 Second Street in heavy flames with smoke billowing from the roof in the rear of the building, fire district spokesman Chad Duffaut said.

The fire, which burned the roof off the building and destroyed the entire attic, was under control shortly after 2 a.m.; 13 units and 27 firefighters responded.

An electrical short at the power disconnect for the air-conditioning system is believed to have started the fire, the fire district said.

No injuries were reported.
