St. Tammany Recreation District 16 will hold meetings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on June 24 and 25, to discuss initial results from a consultant’s study about the community’s recreation needs. Both meetings will be in the first-floor conference room of the Slidell Memorial Hospital Founders Building, 1150 Robert Blvd., Slidell.

On June 24, leaders will discuss the vision and mission of the organization and seek public input on priorities. On June 25, the meeting will be focused on the priorities for Phase I of the district’s development and the community’s willingness to support the district through tax dollars and/or participant fees.

Recreation District 16 encompasses the 8th and 9th wards, a large geographical area surrounding the city of Slidell, extending to Lacombe in the west, Pearl River to the north, and the state line to the east. Thousands of athletes of all ages live in the area and participate in a variety of sports through local nonprofit organizations. There is no centralized recreation service or facility, however, and District 16 leaders hope to change that.
