MY GIRLFRIENDS CLOSET: My Girlfriend’s Closet, a resale boutique, will accept donations of new or gently used, gently worn ladies winter clothing, shoes, purses and accessories from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.

The three day sale will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday Aug. 7; from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday Aug. 8; and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday July 9. The volunteer run shop is located at 881 Robert Blvd. behind The Dollar General Store and Domino’s Pizza in Slidell.

The August sale will feature chic new jewelry and fun summer fashions.

All proceeds from the sale benefit Rainbow Child Care Center, a state “A” licensed, 4 Star rated, nonprofit United Way Partner Agency.

The Center Provides a quality child care development program for working families in need.

CANCER FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER: The Northshore Fundraiser for the Thomas/McMahan Cancer Foundation will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at MovieSets, 400 Garrett Road, Slidell.

MovieSets is a filming location, props warehouse and event venue established by Slidell businessmen Gran Semmes and Lawrence Baratinni. Given the setting, the theme for the fundraiser will be “A Night in Hollywood,” with music to be provided by Full Circle. Food will be provided as well as a celebratory glass of Prosecco. All other alcohol is BYOB, with set-ups provided.

TCHEFUNCTE TRIBUTE: The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum and the Tchefuncte River Foundation will be the beneficiaries of the Tchefuncte Tribute fundraiser from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Pelican Park Castine Center, 63350 Pelican Drive, Mandeville.

The event will feature the Groovy7 Band and food donated by more than 20 local restaurants. One of the items to be auctioned will be the painting “Madisonville Lighthouse 2014” by Carol Hallock, which was commissioned for the event. Tickets are $75, and may be purchased by calling (985) 845-9200.

SUBMARINE VETERANS TO MEET: Redfish Base of the U.S. Submarine Veterans will meet at noon Saturday, Aug. 2, at American Legion Post 185, 1680 St. Ann Place, Slidell.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION: Wines from around the world and local craft beers will be featured during the Grapes & Grain Fine Wine and Craft Beer Tasting being held by the Louisiana Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the Pelican Park Castine Center, 63350 Pelican Drive, Mandeville.

BIG GAME RAFFLE: The Northlake-Mandeville Rotary Club is selling tickets for the “Big Game Raffle,” which will raise money for local charities.

There are 26 prize packages available, each offering premium tickets to local sporting events and more.

Raffle tickets cost $20 each. The drawings will be in late August.

MOONRAKER ISLAND CIVIC ORGANIZATION: Moonraker Island Civic Organization, MICO, has recently become a registered organization with the state and federal government. Its first meeting will be 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at Fox’s Den, 3112 Pontchartrain Drive in Slidell.

Its residents are looking for flood protection, play areas for young children, sidewalks and other things important to the subdivision.

According to a recent announcement, all residents who live on Moonraker Drive are already members.
