A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reserve officer was booked with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and unauthorized use of a movable Saturday night after he crashed a Sheriff’s Office patrol boat into a piling outside T Rivers, a bar and restaurant on the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville.
Daniel Eckhardt, 39, was booked and released Sunday on a $7,500 bond.
George Bonnett, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said Eckhardt, a volunteer, has been decommissioned and the Sheriff’s Office will seek restitution in court for the cost of repairing the boat. He said it was not heavily damaged.
Bonnett said Eckhardt was not acting in any official capacity at the time he boarded and started the docked boat.
Sheriff’s deputies and agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries investigated the incident.
Eckhardt was booked by the Sheriff’s Office for unauthorized use of a movable and by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Bonnett said.
