A suspicious package left at a Slidell gas station was a bag of fertilizer, police said Tuesday afternoon. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff bomb squad was called to the scene after an initial examination by Slidell Police warranted further examination.

The Murphy USA on Natchez Drive was evacuavated while package was examined, said Det. Daniel Seuzeneau, a Slidell Police spokesman.

The package, which was found at the base of a gas pump, was reported about 10:30 this morning, Seuzeneau said. The station reopened around 3 p.m., he said.

A Walmart adjacent to the gas station was not evacuated, he said.
