St. Tammany Parish Hospital and the St. Tammany Master Gardeners Association-LSU Agricultural Center dedicated a Magic Wings Butterfly Garden at the STPH Parenting Center on April 29 to add an educational component to the children’s resource in Covington.

The Master Gardeners donated their time throughout April to prepare and plant the garden, to which Parenting Center members added at the dedication. Master Gardeners members will continue to visit the Parenting Center monthly for educational opportunities such as explaining the life cycle of a caterpillar and butterfly by reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and explaining different types of plants and gardening techniques to children and parents.

Marie Porche, St. Tammany Master Gardeners Association-LSU Ag Center, who is a former Parenting Center member by way of her granddaughter, spearheaded the project.
