A Gretna man was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to distributing child pornography.

Giorgio Cosenza, 30, had been charged through a bill of information at New Orleans' federal courthouse with one count of distribution of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children.

Investigators began corresponding with Consenza by email last year after spotting a post from him on a New Orleans-based online classified advertisement website. In those emails, Cosenza indicated to undercover FBI agents that he collected images and videos of children being sexually exploited and executed a search warrant at his home on April 14, 2016.

Agents seized a laptop computer and smartphone and other electronic equipment that contained 740 images and 30 videos of child pornography. Forensic examinations revealed Cosenza used the devices to search for, download and save pornography involving children as young as 3 years old.

Agents also found Cosenza had recorded and distributed pornographic images of a 14-year-old girl whom he said he had had sexual contact with years earlier.

Text messages from 2014 and 2015 included numerous sexually explicit images of children and Cosenza expressing an interest in having sex with minors between the ages of six and 14 years old.

In addition to the 20 years, Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt also sentenced Cosenza to five years of supervised release and ordered him to register as a sex offender. A restitution hearing is scheduled for November 8.
