The funeral for a New Orleans firefighter slain in Memphis last weekend will be held on Saturday, September 2.
The services for NOFD operator Gregory J. Howard Sr. will be held at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church at 2515 Franklin Avenue, according to a release from NOFD spokesman Capt. Edwin Holmes Jr.
Howard, a veteran firefighter and married father of two, was killed after being struck in the head by a stray bullet outside a Memphis nightclub last Friday.
Howard was in Memphis with colleagues to compete in a basketball tournament for first responders and had gone out for the evening when he was caught in stray gunfire outside a nightclub called Mynt.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with a memorial service to follow immediately after.
Howard will be honored with a funeral procession, lineup and final salute from his NOFD colleagues at the quarters of Engine 27/Ladder 11 at 2118 Elysian Fields Avenue following service.
His interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery at 4000 Norman Meyer Avenue.
