A vehicle struck a Motor Assistance Patrol worker trying to help the driver of a disabled car on Interstate 10 at Causeway Boulevard in Metairie on Saturday afternoon.
The worker had leg and shoulder injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, officials said.
Louisiana State Police spokeswoman Trooper Melissa Matey said the MAP worker was standing on the driver's side of a disabled vehicle near a ramp at I-10 eastbound and Bonnabel Boulevard. Another vehicle described as being out of control vehicle then struck the disabled car, and the MAP worker was hit during the collision, Matey said.
Matey said the MAP worker was taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. Trooper will cite the unidentified driver that caused the crash with careless operation of a vehicle and possibly other violations, Matey added.
An alert about the incident was sent out to Jefferson Parish officials about 3:10 p.m., Parish Councilman Chris Roberts said. Roberts said first responders on the scene included parish firefighters and paramedics.
State MAP workers help interstate drivers change flat tires or provide them a gallon of gasoline if they run out, among other things.
