Two adults and two young girls were wounded when the car they were riding in came under fire Wednesday night in New Orleans East.

The shooting occurred about 11:45 p.m. in the 7000 block of Bullard Avenue. A man and a woman, both 22, and two girls, 5 and 7, were shot, a Police Department spokesman said.

The four victims' vehicle was at the North I-10 Service Road intersection when a red truck pulled up alongside and someone began shooting, police said.

The woman jumped out of the vehicle and ran to a nearby gas station to call 911. The man drove away with the children. All were taken to a hospital, where the children were treated and released.

An infant boy in the vehicle was not hurt.

A red truck was found burned at Lakeshore and Marconi drives, and police were investigating to determine whether it was the vehicle used in the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Police Superintendent Michael Harrison asked the public for help in solving the case.

“Certainly when children are injured we all feel that, and hopefully we can send the right message that this is not acceptable,” Harrison said.

“We need your help. Anyone with any information …. Please call us right now.”
