Kay Daniel of Covington captured her fourth straight Louisiana Women’s Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship title with a 36-hole total of 148 at the Farm d’Allie Golf Club in Carencro on March 9-10.

Daniel and Kie McNabb of DeRidder tied for medalist honors with 76s, and Daniel shot a 72 in the final round to wrap up the title.

Daniel, a member of Money Hill Golf & Country Club, has won 10 LWGA titles, including the 2005 Amateur, 2006-07 and 2009-13 Mid Amateur and junior girls titles in 1987 and 1988.

Amy Tipton of Zachary was the first flight winner, while Joyce Middleton of Mansfield was the second flight winner. Di Ann Montgomery of Lafayette was the third flight winner.


BATON ROUGE-AREA TEAM WINS TITLE: Volleyball Baton Rouge won the 16s Open championship Sunday at the Houston Cross Court Classic, one of the largest girls youth tournaments in the country.

VBR won all seven of its matches in the two-day tournament inside the George R. Brown Convention Center, beating Maverick of San Antonio 25-16, 25-16 in the championship.

The team, coached by Rob Smith and Trey Cruz, consists of players from three area high schools: Sameera Mohamed of Baton Rouge High; Jariel Turead of Lutcher; Lindsay Flory of University High; and Madison Daigle, Sydney Davis, Hanna Rovira and Katherine Young of St. Joseph’s Academy.

The Cross Court Classic included more than 830 teams in various divisions and was competed all over the city of Houston.

SLIDELL TEAM WINS TITLES: The Slidell Force won the U10 girls bracket in the Bayou Shoot Out 2 in Houma on March 9-10 and the 22nd annual Red Stick Tournament in Baton Rouge on March 16-17 with a record of 7-0-1 over the two weekends.

Team members are Michelle Howard, Skylar Armond, Kate Mull, Lauren Jones, Chloee Beebe, Mackenzie Paradis, Megan Kittrell, Janie Sigur, Sarah McGill, Chelsey Biggs, Chloe Hansen and Kacey Lear.

The team is coached by Chris Jones and Pam Biggs.
