MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers have brought back reliever Francisco Rodriguez, signing the right-hander to a minor league deal.

The Brewers made the move Wednesday. Their bullpen has been a sore spot early this season.

The 31-year-old Rodriguez played for Milwaukee the last year and a half. He pitched 78 games last season, going 2-7 with three saves and a 4.38 ERA.

Rodriguez set the single-season saves record with 62 in 2008 with the Angels.

The Brewers got K-Rod from the New York Mets in a trade in July 2011. He is a four-time All-Star and has led the league in saves three times.

White Sox

Danks up from Triple-A: The White Sox recalled outfielder Jordan Danks from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

The younger brother of White Sox left-hander John Danks, Jordan Danks played in 50 games with Chicago in 2012, batting .224. He was batting .333 with two homers and five RBIs in 13 games at Triple-A.


Headley activated; Maybin on DL: In Los Angeles, Padres third baseman Chase Headley was back in the lineup Wednesday after missing 14 games with a broken left thumb.

Last season, Headley hit 31 homers with an NL-best 115 RBIs.

Maybin is batting .091 (3-for-33) with one RBI and three runs scored.


Teixeira takes swings in a pool: In New York, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira took his first swings — in a pool — as he ramped up his rehabilitation from a wrist injury.

Teixeira said the progression to playing in rehab games will be a slow one but he still hopes to be ready within the initial prognosis of eight-to-10 weeks for recovery from a partially torn sheath in his right wrist.


bullpen coach injures leg throwing BP: In Oakland, Calif., Houston Astros bullpen coach Jeff Murphy suffered injuries to his left leg and knee when a protective screen fell on him before Wednesday’s game against the Oakland Athletics.

Murphy was throwing batting practice when a heavy gust of wind blew the screen over, pinning Murphy’s leg underneath.

According to a team spokesman, Murphy pulled his left hamstring and a bruised the knee. He was not taken to a hospital.
