Zunino, the No. 17 on Baseball America’s top 100 list of minor league prospects, was selected third overall in the June 2012 draft after winning the Golden Spikes Award as the nation’s best amateur player. He helped lead Florida to the College World Series three from 2010-12.

Since being drafted, Zunino has been on the fast track to the parent Seattle Mariners, playing 19 games with Class A Everett and 12 with AA Jackson last season and coming to Tacoma this season.

He is batting just .222 but has five homers, third in he PCL, six doubles, two triples and has driven in 29 runs.

The Mariners want him to get more consistent defensively, a team source said, although he is considered to be adequate and throws well.
