Former Southern University baseball player Darren Clark has been hired as the baseball coach at Scotlandville High.
Clark was a two-time All-SWAC selection as a outfielder and designated hitter from 2003-06. He led the SWAC in home runs in 2006.
Previously, Clark spent two seasons as director of baseball operations at Alcorn State. He also earned his master’s degree in secondary education at Alcorn.
Clark played two seasons in the New York Mets farm system after finishing his career at Southern.
Scott-Arruda going strong
Former Woodlawn High standout Danielle Scott-Arruda is back training with the USA volleyball women’s national team, looking to earn a fifth berth on an Olympic squad.
Scott-Arruda was part of the U.S. team’s silver medal effort in 2008, playing the role of a middle blocker.
Scott-Arruda was the State Times Athlete of the Year in 1990. Her No. 12 has been retired by Woodlawn.
Denham Springs broadcaster and summer baseball coach Jim McChristian continues to recover from a heart attack and triple bypass surgery.
Former DSHS football player Dr. Hunter Bond has taken on McChristian’s color commentary role for Yellow Jacket football games on an interim basis, sharing time with play-by-play announcer Jon Fine.
A fundraiser to help defray McChristian’s medical expenses is being conducted by the Jambalaya Shoppe located across from Bass Pro in Denham Springs.
Each Saturday through the end of the football season, the business will donate half of its pre-tax revenue from jambalaya and pastalaya meal purchases to the McChristian fund.
Parkview Baptist volleyball player Fayette Adelaja has committed to Purdue.
Adelaja has been the MVP of the All-Metro team for players in Divisions III-V for the past two seasons.
• The Dunham School’s second baseman William Cox has signed with Louisiana College. He helped Dunham to the Class 2A semifinals last season.

Former Glen Oaks High boys basketball player Brian Williams recorded a 3.5 GPA at Oklahoma State last spring and made the Big 12 Academic Honor roll.
Williams, who redshirted last year, has recovered from a stress fracture that hampered his play the past two seasons.
• Former Covington High and Delta State softball player Kristi Basso is now the assistant softball coach at Marion Military Institute located in Marion, Ala.
