The Zurich Classic of New Orleans will have three of the world’s top 10 players — including No. 1 Jason Day — among a 156-man field that will take part in the tournament which gets under way Thursday at TPC Louisiana.
The PGA Tour released the list of players who will compete for a $7 million purse after the deadline for entering the tournament at 4 p.m. Friday.
Joining Day in the field are Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose. Fowler was fifth in the latest world rankings, while Rose, who won last year with a course-record 22-under 266 total, was 10th.
A total of 151 names were on the list with four more spots to be filled in an open qualifier on Monday at English Turn Golf & Country Club. One more sponsor’s exemption will be handed out as well.
While the deadline for entering has passed, any golfer who finishes in the top 10 at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday can still enter the New Orleans event if he isn’t already in the field.
There are a total of 12 majors winners in the field.
The list: Day, Rose, Keegan Bradley, Angel Cabrera, Jason Dufner, Lucas Glover, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Geoff Ogilvy, Vijay Singh, David Toms and Mike Weir.
Toms, who won in New Orleans in 2001, is one of four former LSU players in the field. The others are Andrew Loupe, Smylie Kaufman and Ben Taylor.
Taylor, who’s slated to play on the PGA Tour Canada this year after being one of the keys in the Tigers’ run to the national championship last spring, received a sponsor’s exemption into the tournament.
