The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will stage a pep rally at 5:30 p.m. Monday to celebrate its acceptance of the school’s first bowl bid since 1970.

ULL athletic director Scott Farmer on Saturday confirmed the Cajuns will be heading to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 17 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The bowl will be the school’s first in 41 years. The last appearance was against Tennessee State in 1970 in the Grantland Rice Bowl.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (8-3) finish the season Saturday at Arizona.

Arkansas State, which has claimed at least a share of the Sun Belt Conference title, on Saturday accepted a bid to the Bowl on Jan. 8 in Mobile, Ala.

The pep rally, including the marching band and cheerleaders, will be held in the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility. Admission is free, and doors open at 5 p.m. Fans are asked to enter through the front lobby entrance.

The pep rally will feature a highlight video, team introduction, the bowl announcement and entertainment from the school’s spirit groups.

Fans will also have a chance to meet the team and purchase bowl tickets as well as bowl T-shirts and hats.
