Brother Martin guards Tyler Epps and Davonn Moore each scored a field goal in the second overtime period and the Crusaders defense held Byrd to a total of two field goals in both extra periods to produce a 71-67 regional round upset of Byrd in a Division I boys basketball playoff game played Tuesday night at Byrd in Shreveport.

A No. 10 seed, Brother Martin (17-13) now advances to play at No. 2 St. Paul’s in Covington at 7 p.m. Friday in the state quarterfinals while No. 7 Byrd ended its season at 21-8.

Brother Martin guard Tyler Lally scored a team-leading 17 points and hit a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining in the first overtime to tie the score at 67 and force a second extra period.

Guard Javier Perez scored 13 points, Epps 12, Moore 10 and forward Jason Stant had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Crusaders, who entered their playoff opener versus Byrd having lost four of their last five regular-season games after finishing as a Division I state finalist last season.

The playoff game was the first for each team, which had first-round byes.
