Comeaux (2-3,0-2) at Acadiana (2-3, 1-1)

Last year: Acadiana won 29-21

The buzz: Both teams lost last week. Comeaux fell in overtime to Carencro. Acadiana’s prolific offense was held to less than 150 rushing yards in a loss at Barbe.

Barbe (3-2,1-1) at Lafayette High (4-1, 1-1)

Last year: Barbe won 55-7

The buzz: Lafayette High is three points away from an undefeated season. Barbe had lost two straight before defeating Acadiana last week.

Sulphur (3-2, 2-0) at Carencro (4-1, 2-0)

Last year: Carencro won 22-14

The buzz: Carencro is an improved team some think has the talent to make a run at the 3-5A title. Sulphur might be 3-2, but the Tors defeated previously unbeaten Sam Houston last week.

New Iberia (1-4, 0-2) at Sam Houston (4-1, 1-1)

Last year: New Iberia won 28-0

The buzz: New Iberia lost another close game last week, this time to Lafayette High. Sam Houston lost its first game of the season at Sulphur.

Ascension Episcopal (4-1, 1-0) at Lafayette Christian (2-3, 0-2)

Last year: Ascension Episcopal won 27-20

The buzz: This is a developing rivalry. Ascension Episcopal is off to a good start under second-year coach Mike Desormeaux. The Blue Gators scored 63 last Friday night against Ascension Christian. Lafayette Christian gave up 25 in the loss to a good Hanson Memorial team last week.

Beau Chene (2-3, 0-1) at Opelousas (1-4, 0-2)

Last year: Beau Chene won 12-8

The buzz: Beau Chene won a second, one-point game last week at Bolton. Opleousas enters this competitive St. Landry Parish rivalry on a four-game losing streak.

Crowley (4-1, 2-0) at Washington-Marion (1-4, 1-1)

Last year: Washington Marion won 28-21.

The buzz: Crowley has one of the area’s best passing games with quarterback Pate Broussard and a long list of talented receivers. Washington-Marion has played a tough nondistrict schedule. The Indians ran the ball against Eunice last week.

Eunice (3-2, 1-1) at LaGrange (1-4, 1-0)

Last year: LaGrange won 19-7.

The buzz: Eunice lost at home in overtime to Washington-Marion, ending a three-game winning streak. Now the Bobcats face LaGrange, perhaps the most talented team in District 4-4A.

Rayne (4-1, 1-1) at Morgan City (2-3,0-0)

Last year: Rayne won 36-0.

The buzz: Rayne ended a four-game winning streak last week in a loss to LaGrange. Morgan City’s two victories have come in the Tigers’ last three games.

Breaux Bridge (3-2, 1-1) at Northside (3-2, 2-0)

Last year: Breaux Bridge won 33-0

The buzz: Northside will play without four players suspended by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for an incident that occurred in the fourth quarter against Westgate last week. Breaux Bridge remains one of the outside challengers for the top spot in 5-4A.

Cecilia (1-4, 0-2) at St. Martinville (1-4, 0-2)

Last year: St. Martinville won 35-28.

The buzz: Cecilia fell behind early against top-ranked St. Thomas More. The Bulldogs though, have running back Raymond Calais (1,000 yards) and quarterback Landon Roberts, who throws to some talented receivers. SMSH has talented athletes that will make this parish rivalry a good game to watch.

St. Thomas More(5-0, 1-0) at Westgate (1-4,0-2)

Last year: St. Thomas More won 38-8.

The buzz: The St. Thomas More offense has an array of weapons the opposition is finding difficult to stop. Westgate athletically features one of the district’s most talented teams. WHS will be without three players in connection with the Northside incident.

Pine Prairie (3-2,0-0) at Church Point (5-0, 0-0)

Last year: Church Point won 34-6.

The buzz: Pine Prairie is off to its best start in the school’s short football history. Church Point’s diversified offense has scored over 30 points the last four games.

Northwest (1-4, 0-0) at Livonia (4-0, 0-0)

Last year: Livonia won 14-7.

The buzz: Northwest has the identical record as the Raiders did at this time last year. The only difference is the Northwest defense is allowing nearly 30 points a game. Livonia had an open date last week after an undefeated start under new coach Guy Mistretta.

Port Barre (2-3, 0-0) at Ville Platte (1-4, 0-0)

Last year: Port Barre won 14-6.

The buzz: Port Barre has fumbled nearly 20 times in the past two games. Ville Platte is off to a wobbly start, especially offensively under new coach Jorie Randle.

Erath (2-3, 0-0) at Abbeville (0-5,0-0)

Last year: Erath won 45-13.

The buzz: Two teams located close to each other open District 6-3A. Erath’s program is making strides this season. Abbeville has lost 15 straight.

North Vermilion (1-4, 0-0) at Kaplan (3-2, 0-0)

Last year: North Vermilion won 29-28.

The buzz: North Vermilion faces a Kaplan team on a three-game winning streak and seems to have solved the problems that affected it earlier.

West St. Mary (0-5, 0-0) at Notre Dame(3-2, 0-0)

Last year: Notre Dame won 35-6.

The buzz: Notre Dame’s nondistrict start has featured some defensive problems. West St. Mary has a young team packed with freshmen and sophomores.

Jeanerette (2-3, 0-0) at Catholic-NI (5-0, 0-0)

Last year: Catholic High won 72-6.

The buzz: Jeanerette has shown its offense can score points. The Tigers open district play on another level as they try to stop the Panthers and quarterback Jason Pellerin. CHSNI is ranked No. 2 among teams in Class 2A.

Westminster Christian (0-5, 0-0) at Delcambre (2-3, 0-0)

Last year: Westminster won 27-21.

The buzz: Westminster averages a touchdown a game. Delcambre won at Port Barre last week after recovering a load of fumbles. It’s the district opener for both teams.

St. Edmund (2-3, 0-0) at Catholic PC (2-2, 0-0)

Last year: St. Edmund won 63-34.

The buzz: St. Edmund has one of the best offenses in the Acadiana area. Catholic Pointe-Coupee has also proven it can score often. This game should be a high-scoring affair.

Sacred Heart (2-3, 0-0) at North Central (1-4, 0-0)

Last year: Sacred Heart won 40-6.

The buzz: North Central plays its final home game of the season. The Hurricanes have eight road games this year. Sacred Heart lost an overtime game to Pine Prairie last week. It’s the district opener for both.

Vermilion Catholic (4-1, 2-0) at Gueydan (0-5, 0-1)

Last year: Vermilion Catholic won 49-12.

The buzz: This District 7-1A contest features a VCHS that has improved each week and a Gueydan team that has had difficulties finishing games.

Mentorship Academy (0-2) at Highland Baptist (3-2, 1-1)

Last year: Teams did not play.

The buzz: Mentorship plays four games this year. Highland has won two of the past three games.
