Mandeville High School punter/place-kicker Joseph Bulovas, the nation’s No. 4 kicking prospect according to, committed to Georgia Tech on Friday night on his Twitter page.

A member of the 2015 Skippers squad that reached the Class 5A semifinals, Bulovas hit 13-of-18 field goals last year, with a long of 52 yards.

He also averaged 45 yards per punt.

Bulovas is perhaps best known for a missed field goal, narrowly missing a 69-yard attempt against John Ehret in the waning seconds of the state semifinals.

“The opportunity (at Georgia Tech) is second to none,” Bulovas said. “It is one of the best schools in the country for what I want to try and accomplish academically. I also have the chance to come in and play right away.”

With current Yellow Jackets kicker Harrison Butker set to begin his senior season this fall, the chance to be both the punter and place-kicker for coach Paul Johnson’s squad was too good to pass up for Bulovas.

“When I talked with the coaching staff, they have told me that is their plan,” Bulovas said of playing early. “They want me to come in and be their guy right away. Those were major contributing factors to me committing to them. Add to that the fact that (Georgia Tech) is in a big-time conference like the ACC. I am going to get to play teams like Florida State, Miami and our rival Georgia every year. It is big-time football. I didn’t see a better opportunity then this coming along, so I jumped on it.”
