In the spotlight: cross country _lowres

Jeffrey Kelley, Catholic High cross country

Jeffrey Kelley, Catholic

Kelley won the boys individual title at the Battle Cross Country Festival for the third straight year while helping lead the Bears to the team title. He put together a winning three-mile time of 15:59 seconds for the race at the Port Hudson State Historic site.

“That course has always been one of my favorites,” Kelley said. “There are three hills in a run in the middle that challenge you. I got to run with Thomas Kelton of Denham Springs, and that was very good. I think it (race) helps get me ready for the rest of the season.

Alicia Stamey, Episcopal

Stamey claimed The Advocate Spotlight honor for the second time in three weeks after winning the individual title at the Battlefield Cross Country Festival. Stamey had a three-mile time of 18 minutes, 54 seconds in her first race on the Jackson-based course to help EHS finish third.

“It was something different for me and my team because it was our first time on the course and in that meet,” Stamey said. “I liked the trails and running in the woods. We knew it would be a slower course, but overall, I’m happy with my race.”
