Friday night football is headed to the baseball diamond this fall.

Eight Catholic League football games will be played at Zephyr Field this fall.

Officials with the Zephyrs and the Catholic League announced the schedule on Thursday at the Metairie stadium that serves as home to the Miami Marlins triple-A affiliate.

“They have worked really hard to make sure this won’t cost us any more than it would to play at the regular stadiums we have in the city,” said Curtis coach J.T. Curtis. “It will relieve some of the pressure on those stadiums that are used both day and night. It will give us an opportunity to play some Friday night football.”

John Curtis will play all three of its District 9-5A home games at the stadium and Holy Cross will play two of its home games there.

Brother Martin, Jesuit and Rummel will also play a home game at the field.

“We are excited for the guys more than anything,” said Holy Cross coach Eric Rebaudo. “It will be something different and something we look forward to.”

The agreement is a one-year deal, but could be extended after this season.
