What started with an inquiry from one Ivy League school led Episcopal wide receiver Spencer Kleinpeter committing to another.

The 5-foot-10, 155-pound Kleinpeter committed to Cornell after attending the school’s football camp earlier this month.

“Right after the (2013) season ended, I got a letter from Harvard inquiring about my grades and test scores,” Kleinpeter said. “So I did some research and contacted all the other Ivy League schools. I got invited to all their camps this summer.

“I went to Cornell’s camp. I ran a 4.4 40 (yard dash) and did real well in the receiving drills. They wanted me to commit while I was there, but I told them I needed some time to think and talk to my family about it.”

Kleinpeter said he fell in love with Cornell’s Ithaca, N.Y., campus during the camp, along with school’s small-town atmosphere. An honor student, Kleinpeter said he plans to major in Cornell’s highly respected hotel management program.

“It’s such a beautiful place,” Kleinpeter said. “There’s actually two waterfalls. Almost half the town’s population are the college students. It’s a great place.”

Kleinpeter said that he plans to take official visits to Cornell, Yale and Wofford College, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, during the fall.
