Salis Payne took the inbounds pass with 5.6 seconds left, drove the length of the court and hit a jumper from the right wing just before the buzzer to give Southern Lab a 68-67 victory over Gueydan in three overtimes Monday night.

The Class 1A thriller played at Southern University’s F.G. Clark Center helped highlight second-round girls basketball playoff action in the Baton Rouge area.

With the win, eighth-seeded SLHS (25-5) advances to play top-seeded Arcadia in Thursday’s quarterfinal round. Payne scored a game-high 37 points for Southern Lab. Cailain Williams contributed 22 points and 14 rebounds for the winners.

DENHAM SPRINGS 53, PINEVILLE 39: In Pineville, fifth-seeded Denham Springs (28-3) of Class 5A took a 13-points halftime lead and led by double digits most of the way.

Maia Robinson scored a game-high 16 points for DSHS and Lexi McMorris had 15. Denham Springs advances to host fourth-seeded Barbe of Lake Charles.

WHITE CASTLE 48, LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN 44: In Lafayette, 14th-seeded White Castle (14-14) pulled one of the biggest second-round upsets, ousting No. 3 LCA. Post player Brooklyn Falcon scored a game-high 16 points for the Bulldogs, semifinalists a year ago, play No. 6 Merryville.

PARKVIEW BAPTIST 80, DONALDSONVILLE 65: In Class 3A, Skyler Goodwin scored a game-high 32 points to help the fourth-seeded Eagles (23-10) advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history. Parkview plays No. 12 South Beauregard. Leah Collins had 15 points. Megan Hatch finished with 11 points and 10 blocked in the game played in Donaldsonville. DHS finished 19-10.

MADISON PREP 84, COUNTRY DAY 27: Sixth-seeded Madison Prep of 2A also made it to the quarterfinals for the first time. The Chargers (28-4) scored at least 19 points in each quarter. Alexis Augustus scored a game-high 21 points and Sherry Porter had 14. MPA faces Jonesboro-Hodge.

ALBANY 42, RICHWOOD 37: A balanced scoring attack helped Class 3A Albany (25-8) advance to play third-seeded University in the quarterfinals. Mahogany Williams led the sixth-seeded Hornets with 12 points. Makayla Preston and Camryn Woods each added 10.

HOLDEN 75, HATHAWAY 50: In Holden, Sydney Hayden scored a game-high 22 points to lead the fourth-seeded Rockets (23-7) in Class B. KK Kropog (13) and Kaylee Hughes (12) also led Holden, which hosts Midland in the quarterfinals.

MOUNT CARMEL 50, ZACHARY 29: In New Orleans, Ellie Holzman had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shot to lead No. 2 MCA (26-6) past 15th-seeded Zachary in 5A. Bryanna Langford, who had 10 points, was the top scorer for Zachary (24-10).

MAMOU 44, EPISCOPAL 34: In Mamou, 2A Episcopal (22-8) got nine points from Chelsea Singleton.
