DeMarcus Cousins' presence at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game was felt on the court despite the New Orleans Pelicans center's torn Achilles tendon Sunday.

That's because teammate and fellow All-Star Anthony Davis started the game for Team LeBron wearing Cousins' no. 0 jersey to start the game as an homage to the big man.Β

The NBA's All-Star Game Twitter account posted a video of Davis putting Cousins' jersey on before the game later in the evening. Davis can be heard saying he chose to wear Cousins' jersey to start the game because "I know my dog wanted to play in the game."Β

"If you score 50 and win MVP, that's mine," Cousins replied jokingly.

The duo also known as "Fire and Ice" made Pelicans history this season when they were both named starters to the NBA's midseason showcase -- the first time the Pelicans had two players named starters.

Both were drafted by All-Star captain LeBron James, of the Cleveland Cavaliers, in the NBA's first year using a format allowing the top two all stars voted by fans, James and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, to draft a team rather than splitting the squads up by the conference they play in.

Davis is making his fifth consecutive appearance in the game, his third as a starter. Sunday would have been Cousins' fourth consecutive All-Star appearance and his first time to start before a torn Achilles tendon in his left foot ended his season in the closing minute of the Pelicans' Jan. 26 matchup with the Houston Rockets.

Davis switched to his own no. 23 jersey later in the game.Β
